The dairy hut, also known as "Paronuzzi" is the most important alpine farm of the Cansiglio-Cavallo hogback. Located near the Piancavallo tourist resort, this farm is the only old high-altitude production units on the plateau that is still in operation.

From Aviano, after driving along the long road full of hairpin bends that ends near the Piancavallo tourist resort, you descend for a short stretch toward Barcis. At the fork (road directions) you turn left on the comfortable dirt road, you cross the pasture and continue slightly uphill up to the Alpine pasture.

In Aviano the remains of the castle (10th century), the Renaissance church of Santa Maria e Giuliana (1589) with a stone Pietà statue of the 15th century in the typical style of Salzburg, the Duomo di San Zenone (1832), with 3 paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries, the church of San Gregorio, embellished with a cycle of frescoes of Christ's Passion by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo (15th century), the Santuario della Madonna del Monte (1615) – which is considered the place of an apparition of the Holy Mary – and the Chiesetta di Santa Caterina (15th century). In 1845 a gorgeous Italian garden was created inside Villa Fabris which is now considered among the nicest parks in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
While in Barcis you can admire Palazzo Centi (17th century), a frescoed sundial on the façade of the old inn in the centre of the town, a work of the artist Pietro Sam (1921-2010), born near Pordenone, the dam and the lake know for the emerald colour of its water.
