It is located in an area which is famous for its many botanical varieties. Monte Cuarnan is a large grassy pyramid from which the eye can freely roam over the entire Friuli, at its top lies the Chiesetta del Redentore.

From Gemona del Friuli you can reach the hamlets of Glesiute, Savalons, Scugielars or Borgat, as you wish, and from there drive along the comfortable paved road leading to a broad car park. From there, after a short stretch of dirt road, you climb up to Malga Cuarnan.

From the Cuarnan Alpine farm you briefly climb up to Sella Foredôr, from which a number of hiking itineraries branch out: to the peak of Monte Chiampon (CAI trail no. 713), to Borgo Mulinârs in Val Torre (CAI trail no. 730) and to Montenars, after climbing to the top of Monte Cuarnan (CAI trail no. 715).
In Gemona, you can see the old town centre with the town hall dated 1502, the Duomo, which was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1976 and is rich in precious old works of art and the municipal museum with the art gallery of Palazzo Elti.
